Women’s Soccer Hosts Georgia Thursday

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky women’s soccer (8-1-1, 0-1-1) returns to the Bell Soccer Complex on Thursday to continue Southeastern Conference play against Georgia (5-3-2, 1-1-0). The match will kick off at 5 p.m. and will be televised on SECN+.

The Wildcats enter the match after suffering their first loss of the season on the road against South Carolina. In a rather even match, the Cats were whistled for a handball in the box in the 75th minute and fell 1-0 after the Gamecocks converted from the penalty spot.

Despite the disappointing result, Kentucky returns home to the Bell boasting a 7-0-1 home record so far this season and has only conceded twice in 720 minutes of play in Lexington. The Wildcats have only conceded four goals through 10 games in 2024 and rank in the top 10 in the nation in goals-against average.

Georgia, a program that has flirted with the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 in recent weeks, enters the match after winning on the road, 1-0 against Vanderbilt. The Bulldogs scored early in the 18th minute and held on for the victory with goalkeeper Jordan Brown, making nine saves in the game. Brown has the most saves out of anyone in the SEC racking up 59 through 10 games.

Thursday’s game will be the 30th meeting between the two programs. Kentucky has a 9-16-5 record all-time against the Bulldogs with a 5-8-2 home record. The last win at home against Georgia came on October 25th, 2018, when the Wildcats won 2-1 thanks to a long-range winning goal from Miranda Jimenez in the 78th minute for a 10-women Kentucky side.
