Women’s Soccer Hits the Road for First Time This Season
LEXINGTON, Ky. – After successfully defending the Bell Soccer Complex, going 4-0 to start a season for the first time since 2022, Kentucky women’s soccer (4-0-0) hits the road for the first time this season taking on their second straight unbeaten opponent in Illinois (3-0-1) in Champaign at 3 p.m. ET. The match will be televised on Big Ten Network +.
The Wildcats enter the match after dispatching Jacksonville State last Sunday 4-1. The offense for the Wildcats was unstoppable and thanks to a brace from Maddie Kemp and two assists from Thalia Morisi, Kentucky saw its highest goal-scoring output of the season so far. The Wildcats look to keep the momentum going on the road facing a familiar foe in Illinois, a team they defeated 1-0 in the Bell Soccer Complex a year ago.
Should the Wildcats earn the victory on Saturday afternoon, it’ll mark the first time the program has started a season 5-0 in 12 years, last doing so in 2012. It could also mark the first time Head Coach Troy Fabiano has won five straight games as Head Coach of the Wildcats.
Illinois are four games into a five-game homestand with Saturday’s match being the final home game for the Fighting Illini before they hit the road for the first time in 2024. The program faced fellow Southeastern Conference opponent Missouri on August 22nd where they tied 1-1 before defeating Illinois State 4-0 last Sunday. The goals came from forward Sarah Foley, midfielders Kennedy Berschel and Regan Moody, and defender Angie Galo. Saturday’s game will mark the third meeting between the two programs and the first time the Wildcats have played in Demirjian Park. The Wildcats lead the series 2-0-0.
