Dallas, Texas – Kentucky women’s tennis sent two doubles teams the 2002 Omni Hotels Intercollegiate National Indoor Championships and both were eliminated from the main draw on Thursday.
The tournament, being played in Dallas, Texas, is comprised of 16 of the best doubles teams in the nation. Sarah Witten and Nathalie Roels defeated Victoria Domina and Brenda Magnetti from Ouachita Baptist, 8-3, in the first round to advance to the Elite-8.
They were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Tulane’s Jenny Kuhn and Julie Smekodub, 8-5.
This is the first year Witten and Roels played doubles tennis together, and still they were ranked pre-season No. 22 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. After this tournament their record stands at an impressive 12-4 for the fall season.
Seniors Amy Trefethen and Jill Buckley, ranked No. 41, were defeated in Thursday’s opening round by Washington’s Claire Carter and Darija Klaic, 9-7.
They faced Courtney Bergman and Alexis Matire, from Harvard, in the consolation quarterfinals and won 8-3. They will face Delia Causevic and Emily Marker from Maryland in the consolation semifinals on Friday. Causevic and Marker are ranked No. 25 in the nation.
