Elizabeth Ramsey, a junior forward on the University of Kentucky women’s soccer team, was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s first-team All-Great Lakes Region, the organization announced today. The Hilliard, Ohio, native becomes the seventh Wildcat in the 11-year history of the program to earn the honor which enables her to be eligible for NSCAA All-America status.
“This truly is a well-deserved award,” Coach Warren Lipka said. “Elizabeth (Ramsey) has fought back from two ACL injuries, and this is a testament to her hard work and dedication. She is an exciting and dynamic player, and it’s nice that her talent was recognized throughout the region.”
The UK tri-captain was selected first-team All-Southeastern Conference in 2002 as she led the 11-9-0 Wildcats in every offensive category: goals (6), assists (8), points (20), shots (49) and game-winning goals (3). She earned SEC Academic Honor Roll status in 2001 while missing the entire season rehabilitating an ACL injury. In 2000, Ramsey was voted UK’s Most Valuable Player and second-team All-SEC as she garnered nine goals and 10 assists for 28 points as a sophomore. Named to the SEC Tournament Team in 2000, Ramsey set the UK single-season assist mark in 1999 when she collected 11 helpers on the year. Currently, she is tied for fourth with Carrie Staber (1995-98) on UK’s all-time scoring list with 71 points.
Kentucky has had nine selections on the NSCAA Great Lakes All-Region Team: Keri Boyce (1999, 2000), Annie Gage (1999), Torie Hesser (1996), Kim LaBelle (1995, 96), Carrie Landrum (1995, 96) and Allison Peppers (1999). Gage was recognized on the second team in 2001.
