UKTF Returns to Drake Relays

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky track and field program will travel to Des Moines, Iowa this week as the Wildcats return to the 2024 Drake Relays presented by Xtream powered by Mediacom on April 25-27 in the Drake Stadium.

Director of Track & Field and Head Coach Lonnie Greene returns to the famous Drake Relays after being inducted into the Drake Relays Hall of Fame in 2022. Greene won a combined eight men’s and women’s events at the 2022 Drake Relays and captured 42 Drake Relays titles in an eight-year period starting in 2013 and is the only Kentucky coach to be inducted into the Drake Relays Hall of Fame.

The competition begins for the Wildcats on Thursday, April 25 at 6:34 p.m. ET with the women’s 800 meters. UKTF will compete in only three distance events on Thursday evening before taking part in the major portion of the meet on Friday and Saturday.

Friday’s events begin for the Wildcats at 12 p.m. ET with the women’s discus throw. Running events begin at 1:20 p.m. ET with the men’s & women’s 110/100-meter hurdles prelims.

Saturday’s events begin at 11:00 a.m. ET with the men’s hammer throw and pole vault. Running events will begin at 1:42 p.m. ET with the men’s and women’s distance medleys.

Championship Outlook

For each individual event contested at each of the First Round sites, the top 48 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the competition.  For each relay event, the top 24 declared relay teams will be accepted into the competition.  Combined events (Heptathlon and Decathlon) are not contested at the First Round sites. For combined events (Heptathlon and Decathlon), the top 24 declared student-athletes in each event based on their position on the national descending-order list will be accepted directly into the Championships. The individual event student-athletes and relay teams accepted into First Round competition will be announced and posted on NCAA.com the week prior to First Round competition. The Wildcats currently have 28 student-athletes in 14 events who would qualify for the NCAA First Round.
