Kentucky Hosts Final Tune-up for Southeastern Conference Play
Looking to wash the sour taste of losing its first weekend series of the season over the weekend out of its mouth, Kentucky will host in-state for Murray State at 6:30 p.m. ET Tuesday in its final Southeastern Conference tune-up. The Racers have shown marked improvement in 2024 and were competitive in all three games at top-ranked Arkansas earlier this season.
The game will stream on SECN+ and Darren Headrick will have the call on the UK Sports Network.
The Wildcats (13-3) didn’t see much go their way last Friday and Saturday in losses to Kennesaw State but bounced back in strong fashion behind Mason Moore’s tremendous start on Sunday against the Owls. Moore allowed just one hit in seven innings, becoming just the second UK pitcher to reach that mark since 2018. The Cats got just enough offense along the way as Nick Lopez and Emilien Pitre continued to lead the way in the batter’s box.
Lopez, who leads UK in batting at .367, continued his assault on the national leaderboard for doubles and now has eight this season. He also currently ranks as the SEC’s most difficult hitter to strike out and has six multi-hit games. Pitre has lifted his average to .339 with a team-leading 14 RBI and five stolen bases in seven attempts.
Murray State (11-5) has won five straight and averages nearly two home runs per game, which ranks tied for 23rd in Division I. UK is 5-1 versus Murray during coach Nick Mingione’s tenure.
