Kentucky/Fordham Stopped Due to Rain, Deemed No Contest
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – With Kentucky leading Fordham 13-0 in the middle of the second inning, Mother Nature took charge and the skies opened, leading to a washout of day one at the 2024 Queen City Classic in Charlotte.
The game will be deemed a no-contest per NCAA Rules and the stats will not count. The game will not be resumed, either.
An updated schedule for the tournament will be circulated later Friday afternoon with Kentucky’s schedule for the weekend potentially effected.
Kentucky put up an eight spot in the top of the first inning thanks to 10 batters coming to the plate on seven hits in the half inning. Erin Coffel led off with a walk and Rylea Smith then singled up the middle to put two on without an out. Lauryn Borzilleri lined a single up the middle to score Coffel and UK was up and running. Ally Hutchins singled up the middle to plate two before Grace Lorsung reached on a fielding error to move Hutchins to second. Following a Jenny Blanton single, Erica Thulen hit a bases-loaded pinch-hit double down the left-field line to plate two and that was the first of three-straight RBI doubles as Erin Coffel and Rylea Smith followed to put Kentucky up eight after half an inning.
Sydney Langdon pitched one inning for UK with no hits allowed before the rains came.
