Kentucky Welcomes Back More Than 90 Alumni for Wildcats, Gators in Rupp Arena on Sunday
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s basketball program will play host to Florida on Sunday, Feb. 18 at noon ET at Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center. It will mark the program’s 50th Anniversary Alumni Game, as it will celebrate 50 years of varsity status all-game-long when it recognizes more than 90 alumni from all decades with on-court appearances and intentionally crafted video elements.
The game will be broadcast on SEC Network, with Roy Philpott and Aja Ellison on the call. Big Blue Nation also can listen in to the play-by-play on UK Sports Network and / or 630 AM WLAP (locally), with the Voice of the Wildcats, Darren Headrick on the mic.
The Wildcats sport a 9-16 record, including a 9-5 record in home games and a 2-9 record in Southeastern Conference games. The Cats are averaging 64.8 points per game, with two players averaging double-digit scoring, including Ajae Petty (14.5) and Maddie Scherr (13.2). Petty, a senior forward from Baltimore, Maryland, also leads UK in rebounds, grabbing 10.6 boards per game. She is ranked in the top five in the league in numerous categories, including tied for second in rebounds (265) and third in field-goal percentage (52.9). She also is just one of four players in the league to have at least 13 double-doubles so far on the season.
The Wildcats have had good minutes from the bench of recent, too, averaging 25.4 bench points per game over the last eight games. Their 19.7 bench points per game overall on the season is listed fifth in the SEC. Both Russell (9.4) and Tyler (9.28) have come off the bench for most of the season. Meanwhile, Cassidy Rowe, a sophomore from Virgie, Kentucky, who also recently has come off the bench, is leading the team and ranks near the top of the league in charges drawn (20).
Kentucky will look to continue its win streak over Florida after winning the last two matchups in 2022-23. The Wildcats lead the Gators in the all-time series, 36-27, and in Lexington, 16-12.
Florida is coming off a home overtime loss against Ole Miss, 67-77, last Thursday. The Gators are 13-10 on the season, including 3-6 in road games and 4-7 in the league. They’re putting up 76.4 points per game, which ranks in the top-five in the league. Two Gators are averaging double-digit scoring, including Aliyah Matharu (18.2) and Leilani Correa (17.8), both of which rank in the top five in the league.
