LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky men’s soccer senior Napo Matsoso earned All-America honors for the first time in his career, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced on Friday.
Kentucky has now been represented on the NSCAA All-America teams three years in a row as goalkeeper Callum Irving earned the honor in 2014 (third team) and 2015 (first team).
Matsoso is the fifth Wildcat in program history to earn NSCAA All-America status (Ilkka Jantti – 2001 second team, Jamal Shteiwi – 2004 third team, Barry Rice -2009 second team and Irving).
Matsoso started in all 19 of Kentucky’s matches, leading the Wildcats with 20 points on eight goals, three of which were game-winners, and four assists. All of Matsoso’s scores came in multi-goal game performances.
One of the most influential attacking midfielders in the country, Matsoso captained Kentucky to the No. 16 national seed and a first-round bye in the NCAA Tournament.
Kentucky made its third consecutive NCAA appearance and fourth in the past five seasons.
Matsoso was a First Team All-Conference USA selection for the third season running.
Massoso was named First Team All-Southeast Region along with teammate Jordan Wilson by the NSCAA, on Tuesday.
Alex Bumpus and Stuart Ford were named Third Team All-Region.
This year’s NSCAA NCAA Division I Men’s All-America Teams feature a total of 36 players, who will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments at the NSCAA All-America Luncheon on January 14, 2017 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in conjunction with the 2017 NSCAA Convention.
