University of Kentucky women?s basketball senior Sara Potts was named to the 2005 preseason All-Southeastern Conference team as announced by the league office Wednesday. Potts, a native of Rochester Hills, Mich., was selected to the second team. It was the first annual women?s basketball preseason All-SEC teams announced by the SEC office.
The preseason teams consist of a minimum of eight players on each squad, voted by the SEC Head Women?s Basketball Coaches.
Potts is one of only two starters returning for the Wildcats this season. The southpaw ranked among the SEC?s best last season and led Kentucky in several statistical categories. She was the Cats? leading scorer with 16.8 points per game, including an impressive 18.4 ppg in SEC play. She led the SEC in three-point shooting, averaging 3.07 three-pointers per game and became the 24th member of UK?s 1,000-point club on Feb. 29. She currently ranks 21st on the all-time leading scorers list.
Potts also was a second-team All-SEC selection by The Associated Press and the league coaches in 2004.
