Men’s Soccer Begins Sun Belt Conference Tournament Sunday
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Five-seed Kentucky men’s soccer (6-6-4, 3-3-3 Sun Belt) will kick off the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Sunday against four-seed James Madison (8-3-5, 4-2-3 Sun Belt) for a 7 p.m. EST matchup in Huntington, W.Va. at the Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex.
Marshall earned the tournament’s No. 1 seed after finishing atop the standings to claim its first Sun Belt Conference regular-season championship. As the top-seeded team, the Herd will host a trio of tournament matches. Prior to Kentucky’s contest with JMU, Marshall will take on eight-seed Old Dominion at 3 p.m.
UCF secured the No. 2 seed and will also host a pair of quarterfinal matches and a semifinal matchup at UCF Soccer Complex.
At the conclusion of the semifinal round, the championship game will be hosted by the highest remaining seed on Sunday, November 12. Kickoff for the Sun Belt Men’s Soccer Championship is slated for 1 p.m. local time.
The Wildcats ended the regular season match slate unbeaten in the final seven matches with victories over previously nationally ranked No. 1 Marshall, previously undefeated and nationally ranked No. 2 West Virginia, and Georgia Southern.
Earlier in conference play this season, the Cats and Dukes went head-to-head in Lexington which ended in a scoreless draw. The two programs battled for the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Tournament title which was won by Kentucky, 2-0. UK and JMU hold a 2-0-1 all-time series record which began last season.
