Streaking Cats Face Mississippi State For Pink Match
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Riding its longest ever unbeaten streak to begin a season, and without a loss through its first six SEC matches for the first time since 2003, No. 18 Kentucky women’s soccer (8-0-5, 2-0-4 SEC) looks to continue its recent form when the Wildcats take on Mississippi State (8-3-3, 3-2-1 SEC) this Sunday at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex.
The match will air live on SEC Network at 3 p.m. with Alex Perlman and Marion Crowder on the call.
Fans in attendance are encouraged to wear pink for what will serve as Kentucky’s “Pink Match”. There will be a pink soccer scarf giveaway for the first 250 fans, as well as an opportunity to support UK in its fight against Breast Cancer.
The Cats are coming off a 2-0 win at home last Sunday vs. Vanderbilt and sit at 10 points in SEC play thus far, the program’s most points in the conference since 2015. Úlfa Úlfarsdóttir (PK) and Maya Lacognato each tallied goals against the Commodores, while Marz Josephson posted her seventh shutout of the season in net. For their efforts, Úlfarsdóttir (Offensive) and Josephson (Defensive) were selected as SEC Weekly Award winners. It marked the first time UK has had two weekly award winners in the same week since Kayla King and Keli Hubly were selected in October of 2012.
The Bulldogs come into Sunday’s action on a two-match winning streak, with a pair of 1-0 wins over Florida and Ole Miss in their last two contests. Juniors Ilana Izquierdo and Aitana Martinez-Montoya are tied for the team lead with four goals apiece, while sophomore Maggie Wadsworth leads the way with three assists. Senior Maddy Anderson has made all 14 starts in net, totaling 37 saves and six shutouts.
