Úlfarsdóttir, Josephson Both Earn SEC Weekly Awards
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following a four-point week which included a draw at Tennessee and a win over Vanderbilt, Kentucky’s Úlfa Úlfarsdóttir and Marz Josephson were both selected as SEC Weekly Award winners, the league announced on Monday.
Úlfarsdóttir was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week, while Josephson received Defensive Player of the Week. It marks the first time that UK has received two weekly awards in the same week since Oct. 15, 2012, when Kayla King (Defensive) and Kelli Hubly (Freshman) were both recognized.
Úlfarsdóttir received her first ever SEC Weekly Award after her two-goal week which included a goal against both Tennessee and Vanderbilt. The Icelandic senior registered UK’s lone score in a 1-1 draw with the Volunteers, before converting a first-half PK during the Wildcats’ 2-0 win over the Commodores. Úlfarsdóttir’s goal against Vanderbilt was also her third game-winning goal this season, a new career-high. She is now 3-of-3 from the penalty spot for her collegiate career.
Josephson, a graduate-transfer from UNC, won her first Weekly Award in the SEC after another stellar week in net. The Apex, North Carolina native was huge for the Wildcats in a 1-1 draw on the road in Knoxville, tallying six saves including one on a Tennessee penalty kick with just over 10 minutes remaining in the contest. Josephson followed up this performance with her seventh shutout of the year against Vanderbilt, making two saves in what was her eighth win of the season. Josephson’s seven shutouts lead the SEC this season, as does her 0.46 GAA.
