Kentucky junior Kim Coventry finished the St. Mary?s Classic strong Sunday by defeating Purdue?s Hala Sufi 6-7, 6-1, 6-3, to win the Singles Flight 1 consolation bracket at the Goodfriend Tennis Center in Knoxville, Tenn.

The 15th-ranked Coventry dropped her first singles match of the tournament on Saturday, but bounced back to win her last two matches.

Junior Lara Maurer picked up her first victory of the season Sunday, after dropping her first two matches Saturday. The Bay Village, Ohio native, swept Rice?s Kimberley Patenaude in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.

Liis Sober, junior from Estonia, finished UK?s day on the courts with a straight set loss to Tiffany Lee of Rice 7-5, 6-1.

?The tournament didn?t go as good as we intended,? head coach Carlos Drada said. ?There were still a lot of positives from this weekend that we will learn from and that will help us to have the results we are capable of accomplishing.?

The Wildcats will return to action on Friday, Sept. 30 at the UK Fall Invitational at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
