The Kentucky football team advanced to No. 14 in The Associated Press poll and No. 15 in the USA Today Coaches poll in rankings released Sunday. It is UK?s highest poll ranking since the 1977 season-ending AP poll in which the Wildcats were rated as the No. 6 team in the country.
The current Cats are 4-0 on the season, 1-0 in the Southeastern Conference after Saturday?s 42-29 win at Arkansas. Kentucky returns to action Saturday vs. Florida Atlantic at 1 p.m. at Commonwealth Stadium. The Owls, coached by former UK player and assistant coach Howard Schnellenberger, are 3-1 this season with victories over Middle Tennessee, Minnesota, and North Texas.
Kentucky Football Tidbits:
Kentucky?s 4-0 record is the team?s best start since the 2002 team opened 4-0. The last time Kentucky opened 4-0, including at least one conference win, was 1950. Including last season, Kentucky has won nine of its last 10 games. That is the best 10-game stretch since the 1977 team won nine of its last 10 games of the season. The win over Arkansas marked the fifth time in the last nine games that Kentucky has come from behind in the fourth quarter to win the game (also Georgia, Vanderbilt, Louisiana-Monroe in 2006 and Louisville in 2007). The Arkansas win marked UK?s first road win in an SEC opener since 1984. Kentucky has scored at least 40 points in all four games this season. It is the first time in school history that the Wildcats have tallied at least 40 in four consecutive games. Quarterback Andre’ Woodson broke the NCAA record for consecutive passes without interception during the Arkansas game. Woodson has an active streak of 296 consecutive passes without a pick, surpassing the previous mark of 271 by Trent Dilfer of Fresno State. Linebacker Wesley Woodyard now has 306 tackles in his career, becoming the first Wildcat since Marty Moore (1990-93) to reach 300 stops.
