Josh Sobota and Luke Brown Have Field Day at Tiger Paw Invitational
CLEMSON, S.C. and SEATTLE, Wash. — It was a field day for the Kentucky track and field team Saturday at the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, S.C., as Josh Sobota claimed his fourth win of the season in the shot put and Luke Brown lengthened his own school record in the triple jump.
Making his season debut, Brown opened the day by improving his triple-jump school record by six inches to 53 feet, 11 inches/16.43 meters. He placed second in the event.
Sobota won his fourth shot-put competition, out of five appearances this season, with a mark of 65’4.25”/19.92m.
UK added to the success in the track events. Karimah Davis, Masai Russell, Christal Mosley and Dajour Miles ran a season-best 3:29.40 to finish as runners-up in the women’s 4×400-meter relay, moving to No. 5 on UK all-time list.
Kennedy Lightner placed third in the Tiger Paw men’s 200m with a time of 20.54, a season best.
Meanwhile at the Husky Invitational in Seattle, Jenna Schwinghamer led the way with a third-place slot in the women’s 800-meter run. Her time of 2:04.84 is an indoor personal best and improves her No. 2 mark on the UK all-time performers’ list. Sydney Steely came in sixth in the event with a time of 2:04.94, a personal best while at UK and No. 3 on the UK all-time performers’ list.

Masai Russell won each of the three rounds she entered on Friday with an 8.02Q in the first round and 7.92Q in the semifinals round at her first 60-meter hurdles competition since breaking the collegiate record with a 7.75 in Lubbock, Texas three weeks ago.
Russell’s next competition is likely to be the Southeastern Conference Championships in a fortnight. Russell has won the 60H at each of the four meets where she has run the hurdles this season.
Yasmin Brooks was sixth in the Tiger Paw women’s 60m hurdles final with a time of 8.18.
Logan Coles began the day for the Wildcats at Tiger Paw with a podium finish in the men’s open weight throw. His 65-feet, nine-inch/20.04 meters throw was a personal best, moving up to No. 6 on the UK all-time performers’ list. Michael Browning placed fourth (65’1.5”/19.85m) and Dennis Ohene-Adu placed fifth with a new PB (64’4”/19.61m) that moved him to No. 10 on the UK all-time performers’ list.
Jordan Anthony was sixth (fifth overall collegian) in the Tiger Paw men’s 60m final with a time of 6.68 in the third round he had run on Friday.
In Seattle, UK distance runners competed in the Husky Classic. Jake Allen turned in the best performance on Friday, finishing seventh in the open 3,000-meter competition with a personal-best time of 8:01.22.
Next for the Wildcats
On Friday, Feb. 17, Wildcat distance runners will compete at Wake Forest’s JML DMR meet. The full squad will be in action Feb. 24-25 at the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships held at the University of Arkansas.
