University of Kentucky tight end Jacob Tamme has been chosen as one of the 2007 National Scholar-Athletes by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame and will receive an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship.

Tamme is one of 15 players from around the nation, including all classifications of collegiate football, to be recognized. He is now a finalist for the prestigious Draddy Award, which goes to the NFF?s top scholar-athlete in the country. The Draddy will be announced, and Tamme will receive his National Scholar-Athlete Award, at the annual NFF Awards Dinner on Dec. 4 in New York City.

The National Scholar-Athlete Awards take into account academics, athletic performance, citizenship, and leadership. Tamme (Danville, Ky.) excels in all areas:

He needed only three years to complete his bachelor?s degree in integrated strategic communications. Tamme is in his second year of his master?s in business administration. On the playing field, he has 28 receptions for 304 yards and four touchdowns this season. He was named first-team All-Southeastern Conference in 2006. His career totals feature 105 catches for 1,102 yards and nine TDs. He is one of only 10 players in UK history with at least 100 receptions and he is the No. 2 pass-catching tight end in school history, trailing only James Whalen. Tamme has been very active in community service. He was been the Outreach Chairman for the UK football team and his many service efforts earned him a place on the 2006 National Good Works Team, one of only 11 players honored by the American Football Coaches Association.

Tamme is the fourth Kentucky Wildcat to win the NFF Scholar-Athlete Award, joining Jim Kovach (1978), Leon Shadowen (1979), and Jeff Zurcher (1998).

Lyons, Peters are Game Captains: Junior wide receiver Dicky Lyons and sophomore defensive tackle Corey Peters are the game captains for this week?s contest vs. Mississippi State, Coach Rich Brooks has announced.

Game captains are usually chosen based on their play in the previous game. Lyons (New Orleans, La.) had career highs with eight catches for 124 yards and three touchdowns last Saturday vs. Florida. Peters (Louisville, Ky.) had two tackles against the Gators and was recognized by the coaches for his solid performance in the game.

Lyons and Peters will join permanent captains Andr? Woodson and Wesley Woodyard for the pregame coin toss.

?Buyer Beware? for Tickets Not Bought Through UK or TicketMaster: With Saturday?s game another sellout at Commonwealth Stadium, fans are reminded ?buyer beware? for game tickets not purchased through official outlets ? UK Athletics or TicketMaster.

Tickets that have been reported as lost or stolen have cancelled bar codes and will not be admitted to Commonwealth Stadium. Also, UK student tickets are admissible only with a current UK student identification card.

In addition, counterfeit tickets have appeared at the last two games, bearing fake bar codes that will not enable the ticket-holder to enter the stadium.
