1st Quarter Summary

  • USC’s Ryan Succop missed a 49-yard field goal attempt with 7:07 remaining.
  • UK’s Trevard Lindley intercepted USC’s Chris Smelley and returned it 28 yards for the touchdown.  It was Lindley’s eighth career interception and third this season.  It was also his second career touchdown but first interception return for TD.  The last UK player to return an interception for a TD was Micah Johnson last season for 21 yards vs. Florida Atlantic, 11/29/07.   • USC’s Chris Smelley pass was intercepted by UK’s Shomari Moore.  It was Moore’s first interception of the season and fourth of his career.

UK Individual Notes

  • Dicky Lyons caught two passes for 12 yards. Lyons is now fifth all-time on the UK career receptions list with 139 and ranks fifth on the career receiving yardage list with 1,752 yards and tied for third on the career receiving TD list (18).
  • Lyons has caught at least two passes in 26 consecutive games 
  • Braxton Kelley stopped four ball carriers in the game. Kelley has made at least three tackles in 18 consecutive games.
  • Sophomore Brad Durham earned his first collegiate start at right tackle.
  • UK tied its season high for forced turnovers in the first quarter with three, including two interceptions and one forced fumble.
  • Tim Masthay, the SEC leader in touchbacks, has 17 touchbacks on the season after one touchback against South Carolina. Masthay’s 23 touchbacks last season led the Southeastern Conference.
  • Junior Micah Johnson led the defense with a career-high 12 tackles.
  • Sophomore Derrick Locke led the offense in both rushing and receiving yards for the second consecutive game. On the ground he gained 53 yards on 15 carries and caught eight balls, tying his career high set last week, for 57 yards through the air. Locke led the team with 146 all-purpose yards.
  • Freshman Randall Cobb totaled a career-high eight receptions for 53 yards, also a career high.
