NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Kentucky women’s tennis squad continues fall action in Nashville, Tenn., for the June Stewart Invitational Oct. 17 – 19. Other schools joining the Wildcat team are tournament host Vanderbilt, Middle Tennessee State, Indiana, William & Mary, Western Michigan and UT-Martin.

Tournament action begins on Friday morning with the first round of doubles. Kentucky’s leading doubles pair and the nation’s No. 16 duo of Carolina Escamilla and Christine Johnston take to the service line against William and Mary’s Katarina Zoricic and Carmen Pop. UK sophomores Megan Broderick and Lauren Meier also pair up against members of the Tribe, Ragini Acharya and Katie Kargl.

 

Also donning blue and white are freshmen Jennifer Stone and Caroline Lilley. The Kentucky newcomers are set to face the Skyhawks’ Ernestine Koomhof and Martie Wahl.

 

Friday afternoon begins singles action.  Kentucky’s number one singles player, No. 55 Megan Broderick, starts the first round opposite William and Mary’s Klaudyna Kasztelaniel. The Wildcats’ Meier serves against the Tribe’s Acharya after seeing her earlier in the day during doubles.

 

UK’s Johnston, ranked No. 118 in the country is scheduled to play Lindsey Stuckey of Indiana during the first round of singles. Stone, a rookie for the Cats competes with another Hoosier, Myriam Sopel.

 

Rounding out the Wildcat line-up are senior Escamilla and freshman Lilley. Escamilla takes on Vanderbilt’s Jackie Wu while Lilley faces Western Michigan’s Jenny Nalepa.

 

Last time out Kentucky took split squads to the ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif., and Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the Roberta Alison Invitational. Sophomore Meier and freshman Lilley each returned to the Bluegrass with championship wins from Alabama.
