LIMA, Peru – Representing Canada, former Kentucky tennis player Bruno Agostinelli’s deciding Davis Cup match against Ivan Miranda of Peru was suspended due to darkness with Agostinelli leading two sets to one Sunday evening in an Americas Group I first-round playoff outdoors on clay at the Club Lawn Tennis De La Exposicion in Lima.
The two countries are tied at two points apiece after three days of play in Peru. Agostinelli’s match is scheduled to resume Monday. Should the Niagara Falls, Canada, native win Agostinelli would keep Team Canada in the Americas Group I in 2010.
Agostinelli is the eighth UK men’s tennis player to participate as a member of a Davis Cup national team. Current Wildcat Alberto Gonzalez is a member of Panama’s Davis Cup squad. Agostinelli turned pro this summer after a storied collegiate career in the Blue and White.
Team captain Martin Laurendeau chose Agostinelli along with 2009 Wimbledon doubles champion and Davis Cup veteran Daniel Nestor, Frederic Niemeyer and Peter Polansky.
