LEXINGTON, KY – Aaron Rodgers has been hired as an assistant coach for the University of Kentucky women’s soccer program, as announced by Head Coach Jon Lipsitz.

No stranger to the Southeastern Conference, Rodgers will be making his third stop within the SEC, having previously coached at Florida and Alabama.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to remain in the SEC at a traditionally strong program like Kentucky,” said Rodgers. “Additionally, working with Coach Lipsitz will give me an opportunity to learn from one of the great minds in the game.”

Rodgers spent last season as a volunteer coach with the University of Florida soccer team, serving as the goalkeeper coach . During his time in Gainesville, the Gators captured the 2008 SEC championship, while reaching the NCAA Sweet 16 as well.

“Aaron is such a wonderful addition to the staff and our program,” said Lipsitz. “He is one of the bright young minds in this game and is going to be a great contributor to our success.”

His other SEC stop in Tuscaloosa occurred in the 1998 season. The Crimson Tide won the Southeastern Conference’s Western Division and earned a NCAA Championship berth that season. Rodgers coached 1998 All-SEC first team selection Rachel Brown, who is currently the goalkeeper for the England National Team.

Rodgers played collegiate soccer at both Arkansas-Little Rock (1991) and North Texas (1992-1993). He also played four seasons with various United Soccer League (USL) teams in the southeast – Texas Toros (1993-1994), Dallas Rockets (1995) and Mobile Revelers (1997).

The University of North Texas graduate and his wife, Mandi, have a two-year old son, Luke, and are currently expecting their second child.
