Kentucky Volleyball Hosts Xavier for Home Spring Match

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Fans of the Kentucky volleyball program can get a sneak peek of the 2017 squad on Sunday in Memorial Coliseum at 4 p.m. Admission is free to all patrons and doors will open one hour prior to first serve.
Two new faces – libero Gabby Curry and outside hitter Merideth Jewell – will don the Kentucky uniform during the spring. Curry is an early enrollee from Buford, Georgia, and was an Under Armour All-American and two-time Georgia Gatorade Player. Jewell comes to UK from Morehead State, and was Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year and a two-time member of the All-OVC team. The Louisville, Kentucky native was 41st in the nation in kills as a sophomore with 431.
Kentucky returns 11 Wildcats for the 2017 season. Four Cats – Olivia Dailey, Leah Edmond, Kaz Brown and Ashley Dusek – are coming off impressive seasons where all four earned All-Southeastern Conference recognition and American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region selection. Edmond earned Region Freshman of the Year and also landed on the AVCA All-America third team, while Dailey and Dusek were honorable mention All-America honorees.
UK posted a 23-8 record last season and finished third in the SEC at 15-3. For the ninth time in 10 seasons, UK reached the 20 win mark. The Cats advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament after taking down Colorado State in four sets in the opening round.
Xavier went 20-13 during the 2016 campaign and 13-5 in the Big East. The Musketeers advanced to the second round of the Big East Tournament before falling to the No. 1 seed Creighton Bluejays in three sets.
The Wildcats started the spring season at the KIVA Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky last weekend where the team saw a variety of opponents. After returning home to Memorial Coliseum, the Cats will travel to Floyd Central High School in Floyds Knobs, Indiana to face Purdue April 13. UK will wrap the spring portion of the season at Tennessee April 20.
