Lance Heard Named a Semifinalist for the 2026 Lombardi Award
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky left tackle Lance Heard has been named one of 12 semifinalists for the 2026 Lombardi Award honoring the nation’s top college lineman and linebackers who embody the discipline, character and excellence of legendary coach Vince Lombardi.
Heard was picked from the committee’s 64-player midseason watch list. The athletes selected have distinguished themselves through their leadership, strength and impact on and off the field.
The 6-foot-6, 325-pounder has established himself as an elite pass protector, exceptional lead blocker and “a certified people mover,” as quoted by CBS Sports’ Mike Renner. In 461 snaps in 2026, Heard has yielded just one sack and committed a mere three penalties while protecting the quarterback’s blindside. He also has totaled 17 knockdown blocks during the season.
Heard’s impact this season has earned first-team midseason All-America recognition from On3 Sports and a place on the Outland Trophy watch list, given to the nation’s best interior lineman.
The Bonita, Louisiana native has helped power an offense capable of explosive plays in both the run and passing game. His physicality and ability to finish blocks make him a cornerstone of Kentucky’s rebuilt Big Blue Wall – a semifinalist for the Joe Moore Award as the nation’s top offensive line.
Heard earned Southeastern Conference Offensive Lineman of the Week following UK’s comeback victory at South Carolina, grading at 81% with five knockdown blocks — including two on one play — zero penalties and no sacks allowed.
Heard is coming off a spotless, dominant performance in Kentucky’s most recent game, a win over Vanderbilt. He led the team with a grade of 85% and four knockdown blocks, while not allowing a quarterback sack or pressure, with no missed assignments or penalties.
Heard was chosen for the Pro Football Focus “Team of the Week” for the South Alabama game, in which UK rushed for 390 yards and had a trio of 100-yard rushers, only the second time in school history that has been accomplished.
Now in its 53rd year, the Lombardi Award has been presented annually in Houston, Texas, since its inception in 1970. This year’s award ceremony will take place on Dec. 9.
The Lombardi Award represents more than the distinction involved; it honors players who best exemplify Lombardi’s enduring principles of leadership, courage, and discipline. The 2026 semifinalists have stood out for their exceptional ability in their positions, perseverance, and impact on their teams, continuing a legacy that inspires future generations of athletes.
The Wildcats return to action on Saturday in a road contest at No. 16/16 Tennessee. Kickoff is set for 6:15 p.m. ET and the game will air on ESPN.
