Men’s Golf Ties for Seventh at Bearcat Invitational

CINCINNATI, Ohio. – The Kentucky men’s golf team wrapped up play at the Bearcat Invitational on Tuesday, finishing in a tie for seventh place at Coldstream Country Club (par 71, 7279 yards) with a 54-hole team total of 1-over par.

The Wildcats were 5-over as a group during Tuesday’s final round and placed in the upper half of the 17-team field. Junior Jacob Lang posted UK’s best score of the day, a 1-under par card of 70, while Gabriel Hull was even in round three, securing a T14 finish individually.

“We did not have our best stuff this week, but I am proud of the way the guys hung in there,” head coach Gator Todd said.

Hull, a sophomore transfer from Emmanuel University, posted his best finish as a Wildcat this week. The native of South Daytona, Florida ended the tournament at 1-under par to tie for 14th among 96 competing players. Hull’s 11 birdies for the tournament tied for the team high. He played superbly on Coldstream’s par 4s with a 3.88 scoring average on those holes, tied for the second-best mark in the field.

“Gabe really stepped up the final two rounds for us,” Todd said. “He has real game and he’s starting to show what he’s capable of.”

Cole Stockard continued his consistent play this week, finishing T21 at even par after a final round 73 (+2). The sophomore tied for the second-best par 5 scoring mark in the field, going 6-under par on the nine total par 5s played for the tournament.

“Cole didn’t have his ball striking and still found a way to finish top 25,” Todd said. “That’s why he is our top player.”

Cameron Phillips tied for 28th at 1-over par in what was his first start of the season. Jacob Settles, competing as an individual, joined Phillips in a tie for 28th. Settles had 11 birdies across the three rounds, tied for the most on the team.

Lang delivered the low round of the day for UK on Tuesday, posting his first round at par-or-better of the season. The junior made three birdies to two bogeys in round three and climbed 17 spots on the leaderboard to finish T55 at 5-over par total.

“I challenged Lang last night and I was really proud of how he showed up for his team today,” Todd said.

Gavin Clutts ended his week with a 75 (+4), tying for 77th at 9-over par.

Next up for the Wildcats is the Windon Memorial Classic, hosted at Onwentsia Club in Lake Forest, Illinois, Sept. 28-29.
