LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky women’s soccer (4-1-0, 0-0-0 SEC) scored five times in the opening 22 minutes and never looked back, cruising to a 9-1 victory over Wright State (2-2-1, 0-0-0 Horizon) on Sunday at The Bell Soccer Complex. The Wildcats featured six different goalscorers, with freshman Kyla Dawn recording a hat trick and the most goals scored since 1992.
Dawn got the scoring started early, finding the back of the net in the sixth minute off a through-ball assist from senior Nadia Ramadan to give Kentucky a 1-0 advantage. Seconds later, Dawn struck again, in almost identical fashion, this time finishing a feed from freshman Sydney Arendarczyk to double the Wildcats’ lead.
The freshman completed the hat trick in the 16th minute, scoring her third goal of the night off an assist from junior Kendall Campbell. The three-goal performance is the first since Makayla Woods against Tennessee on Oct. 27, 2024 and gives Dawn seven goals through five matches this season.
Kentucky continued its offensive pressure, as Ramadan added a goal in the 19th minute to make it 4-0. The goal was unassisted, giving Ramadan her fifth goal of the season.
Two minutes later, Juliette Rayo found the back of the net from outside the 18 for her fourth goal of the season, pushing the Wildcats’ advantage to 5-0.
Wright State answered with a penalty-kick goal from Addy Canter in the 38th minute, after a handball by Kentucky’s Isabella Winton was ruled on the field, cutting the deficit to four heading into halftime.
The Wildcats continued to control the match in the second half, outshooting the Raiders 11-0 over the final 45 minutes. Ramadan added her second goal of the night in the 61st minute, making it 6-1.
Kentucky added three more goals in the final 25 minutes. McKenzie Godfrey scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the 66th minute off an assist from Amy Dekkers. This was Godfrey’s first appearance of her career as well.
Elkie Bowyer got in on the action, recording her first goal of the season three minutes later, with Campbell providing the assist once again. Bowyer’s shot was from around the 18, booming into the upper right 90 of the goal in impressive fashion.
Dani Chaump capped the scoring in the 90th minute, finding the back of the net off another assist from Dekkers to secure the 9-1 victory.
Bouncing back just as planned after a tough loss to Ohio State on Thursday, Kentucky saw the most goals scored in a single game since they defeated Bellarmine 9-0 on Oct. 29, 1992.
Kentucky finished the night with a 23-2 advantage in shots, including a 16-2 edge in shots on target, while earning 12 corner kicks to Wright State’s zero. With the 9-1 victory, the Wildcats improve to 4-1-0 on the season.
Kentucky will return to The Bell this Thursday against the Louisville Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. ET. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and all fans are encouraged to wear blue.
