Kentucky Men’s Golf Runs Three Deep at 2026 U.S. Amateur

ARDMORE, Pa. – Gabriel Hull, Jacob Lang and Cole Stockard of the Kentucky men’s golf team are set to tee it up in the 126th U.S. Amateur at the esteemed Merion Golf Club (par 70, 6,939 yards) and Philadelphia Country Club (par 70, 7,201 yards), Aug. 10-16.

Conducted by the United States Golf Association, the U.S. Amateur is the premier annual golf tournament for male amateur golfers in the United States. Past champions include the likes of Francis Ouimet, Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and more.

The championship format features 36 holes of stroke play, with competitors playing one round at Merion Golf Club and one at Philadelphia Country Club on Monday and Tuesday. From there, the top 64 on the leaderboard will move forward into match play, contested solely at Merion beginning on Wednesday.

Hull, Lang and Stockard each earned their way into the 312-player field through qualifying. Hull advanced by tying for medalist honors at final qualifying at Dutchman’s Pipe in West Palm Beach, Florida.  Lang qualified for the championship with a 2-under par round at Ohio State Golf Club’s Scarlet Course, while Stockard fired a 69 (-1) at Rivermont Golf Club in John’s Creek, Georgia, ultimately prevailing in a playoff.

Hull signed with the Wildcats as a transfer in July after spending his freshman season at Emmanuel University. He collected two wins and five top five finishes with the Lions on his way to being named the Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year and qualifying as an individual for the NCAA Division II National Championship.

Lang is entering his junior year at UK and was an individual qualifier for the NCAA Division I National Championship last season. He became the first Wildcat to compete at the national championship since the team qualified in 2018. Among his notable results this summer, Lang tied for 16th at the Trans-Mississippi Amateur and placed fifth at the Monroe Invitational.

Stockard impressed with one of the best freshman campaigns in program history in 2025-26, collecting two wins to become the first Kentucky freshman to win twice since JB Holmes in 2001-02. He led the team in scoring average at 71.59 and posted a team-best 15 rounds under par. This summer, Stockard has top 10 finishes at the Georgia Amateur Championship and Monroe Invitational, along with a T12 result at the Dogwood Invitational.
