Local Product Jerone Morton Signs with Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Jerone Morton, a 6-foot-4 rising senior who hails originally from Lexington, Kentucky, has penned an agreement to join Kentucky men’s basketball it was officially announced on Friday.

Morton played the 2025-26 season at Washington State where he started 29 of 32 games and averaged 7.8 points and 2.6 assists per game. Morton posted shooting splits of 43.8 percent from the field, 38.7 percent from 3-point range and 82.0 percent from the foul line. He scored in double-figures on 10 occasions and dished out three or more assists 15 times.

Some of the guard’s best games this past season came against quality opponents. Morton tallied a season-high 16 points against Gonzaga in January, going 6 of 11 from the floor and knocking down three triples. He had a career-high nine assists at St. Mary’s in another strong performance against an NCAA Tournament team.

Morton spent his first two collegiate seasons at Morehead State. As a freshman, he was a part of a Morehead State team which reached the NCAA Tournament after winning the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament and finishing with a 26-9 record.

Morton broke out during his sophomore season, starting 20 games and averaging 10.7 points, 3.6 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals. His sophomore campaign including a career-high scoring performance, when Morton went for 21 points on 10-of-15 shooting vs. SIUE. He was second on the Eagles in scoring that year and was the team leader in both assists and steals.

For his college career, Morton has played in 92 games and made 51 total starts. Over three seasons, he is averaging 6.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists.

A local product, Morton played high school basketball at George Rogers Clark where he won a KHSAA State Championship in 2022, averaging 14.5 points while scoring 14 in the championship game on his way to earning the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. The next season, as a high school senior, Morton brought George Rogers Clark back to the state title game, where the Cardinals would fall to Warren Central. He averaged 18.3 points, 5.8 assists and 5.3 rebounds during his final Sweet 16 run.
