Aidan Laros Named to Ray Guy Award’s Weekly Ray’s 8

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky senior punter Aidan Laros was named to the Ray Guy Award’s weekly Ray’s 8 for Week 10, the Augusta Sports Council announced Monday. It marks the second time this season Laros has been recognized, also earning the merit after his Week 3 performance.

Laros played a pivotal role in Kentucky’s 10-3 victory at Auburn last Saturday, only the third in the program’s history. The Wildcats dominated the field position game in large part to Laros’s performance. The Cape Town, South Africa native punted six times for a 44.8-yard average, with all six punts finishing inside the Auburn 20-yard line. He also kicked off three times, with Auburn’s average starting field position after those kickoffs being its own 16-yard line.

Following his six punts, Auburn was pinned at their 2, 12, 12, 8, 17 and 9-yard lines – an average starting field position of their own 10-yard line as UK continually forced the Auburn offense to try and drive the length of the field. He also booted a season-long 57-yard punt. Auburn did not score on any of the nine possessions following a Laros punt or kickoff.

For the season, Laros has punted 36 times for 1,603 yards, an average of 44.5 per kick. He has placed 19 of the 36 punts inside the 20-yard line and booted 11 of at least 50 yards.

The other seven weekly winners were Dante Atton (Temple), Alex Bacchetta (Rice), Tommy Doman (Florida), Bart Edmiston (Wyoming), Billy Gowers (Hawaii), Ashton Logan (Mississippi State) and Gabe Nwosu (Penn State).
