Men’s Golf Heads to Williams Cup for Final Fall Test

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Kentucky men’s golf will compete for the final time this fall when play begins on Sunday at the Williams Cup, hosted by the University of North Carolina at Eagle Point Golf Club (par 72, 7353 yards).

The stacked, 14-team, field includes nine schools ranked inside the top 30 in the recently published, first rankings of the season from Scoreboard Powered by Clippd. No. 1 Utah and No. 4 Auburn headline the competing schools, while No. 11 Texas, No. 12 North Carolina, No. 13 Oklahoma, No. 23 Notre Dame, No. 24 Arizona, No. 26 Florida and No. 28 Louisville are also set to tee it up.

The Wildcats, who come in at No. 54 in the initial rankings, are fresh off a runner-up finish at their home tournament, The Cullan Brown Collegiate. There, UK went 10-under par in the weather-shortened, 36-hole, event to place second among 15 teams, just one shot back of Mississippi State.

Freshman Cole Stockard was the individual champion at the Cullan, becoming Kentucky’s first individual winner since Alex Goff in 2020, and the first freshman to claim victory since Chip McDaniel in 2015.

Stockard is back in the lineup this week, where he is joined by senior captain Jack Schoenberger, junior transfer Luke Coyle and sophomores Jacob Lang and Gavin Clutts. Schoenberger, Coyle, Lang and Stockard will all be making their fourth start in as many team events this season, while Clutts enters the starting lineup for the first time this fall.

Clutts, who hails from Hazard, Ky., has impressed as an individual, finishing T-6 at the Colonel Classic and T-10 at the Cullan Brown Collegiate. Though he has played just five total rounds, the sophomore leads the team in scoring average at 69.20 on the year.

Coyle and Lang have been the most consistent performers in the starting lineup through Kentucky’s first three events with scoring averages south of 71.00. Neither player has finished below T-33 in any tournament thus far.

Kentucky will tee off hole No. 10 in round one with tee times from 8:25 a.m. to 9:05 a.m. The Cats will be paired with UNC Wilmington and North Carolina State. Round two will follow on Monday, while the third and final round is set for Tuesday.
