Legacy Cemented: Carlie Makarawu Wins Second NCAA Title of 2025

EUGENE, Ore. – For the second time in 2025, Carlie Makarawu is a national champion!

The Kentucky Wildcats closed out the men’s portion of the 2025 season tonight on day three of the NCAA Championships at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. on Friday night with four First Team All-American honors in as many events.

After putting points on the board in each of the four participating finals, the Wildcats posted the best finish in program history at the outdoor championships, ending the night with a share of eighth place with fellow SEC programs Florida and Ole Miss with a total of 22 points.

Ten of those points came in the final event of the 2025 season, as the legend of Carlie Makarawu grew even larger. Makarawu, coming off a NCAA 200m Indoor Championship back in March, cemented his legacy as one of the greatest sprinters in Kentucky history. The Zimbabwe native claimed his second national title in just his first season with the Wildcats, running a school and national record time of 19.84, beating out former collegiate leader Makanakaishe Charamba of Auburn for the gold medal.

In the first event of the day, the men’s 4x100m relay team, also featuring Makarawu, along with teammates Miles Jones, Clinton Muunga and Josh Onwunili, earned the first All-American First Team nod of the week for the Wildcats, with a sixth-place finish in the final, posting a 38.85 time.

SEC Champion Collins Kiprop Kipngok was next on the track for Kentucky in the men’s 3000m steeplechase final, with the Wildcat freshman placing fifth and nearly breaking his personal-best mark, crossing the finish line with a time of 8:22.92. Kiprop Kipngok caps off a phenomenal opening chapter of his collegiate career at Kentucky, ending the season with the UK steeplechase program record, a SEC Championship and a SEC Freshman Runner of the Year award.

Luke Brown featured as the lone Wildcat during the evening’s field events, securing Kentucky’s fourth and final First Team All-American honor in the men’s triple jump final. Brown posted a final mark of 16.18m/53-1 to place fourth in the event to add to his impressive career resume as a Wildcat.

Tomorrow’s events will conclude the women’s portion of this year’s championships, and the Wildcats’ 2025 season, with Sophie Galloway competing in the women’s triple jump final at 9:10 p.m. ET/6:10 p.m. PT on ESPN 2.
