Seven More Wildcats Punch Their Tickets to Eugene on Day Three in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –  One step closer!

On day three of the NCAA East First Rounds, seven Wildcats secured their spots in the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. on June 11-14.

After her event was postponed due to inclement weather yesterday evening, today, Payton Phillips joined Kate Powers as the second Wildcat to punch a ticket to the NCAA Championships, posting a 4.09m/13-5 mark in the women’s pole vault semifinal.

SEC Outdoor silver medalist Luke Brown followed suit by placing third in the first round of the men’s triple jump event with a 16.07m/52-8.75 mark to punch his ticket to Eugene.

During the evening running events, five more Wildcats secured their spot in the NCAA Championships, including the men’s 4x100m relay team, consisting of Carlie Makarawu, Clinton Muunga, Miles Jones and Josh Onwunili, Collins Kiprop Kipngok in the 3000m steeplechase and Makarawu again in the 200m.

In the men’s steeplechase, Kiprop Kipngok set a new Hodges Stadium facility record with a time of 8:24.91 to finish atop the leaderboard. In the 200m, Makarawu also broke the UK program record with a 19.92 mark.

Through the first three days of the NCAA East Regionals, Kentucky has punched nine individual tickets to the NCAA Championships in Eugene across six different events, looking to add more on the final day of action on Saturday.

The NCAA East First Rounds will conclude tomorrow with the women’s quarterfinal events, starting with Aliyah Adams and Sophie Galloway featuring in the women’s triple jump at 2:30 p.m. EST. The women’s 4x400m relay quarterfinal will cap off the final day in Jacksonville at 8:45 p.m. EST.
