Cathryn Brown Selected to SEC Community Service Team
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Kentucky women’s golfer Cathryn Brown has been named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, it was announced by the league office Friday.
Brown, a sophomore from Eddyville, Kentucky, has recorded a team-high 25 hours of community service in her short time at UK. This season alone, she has recorded 20.5 hours of community service in 2024-25.
Brown’s most cherished memory from serving this season was at DanceBlue in March. DanceBlue, which is a 24-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon to raise awareness and funds to fight childhood cancer, is near and dear to Brown’s heart after losing her brother to a fight with osteosarcoma in 2020. At the dance marathon, Brown enjoyed hanging out with fighters themselves and also bumped into the nurse that cared for her brother.
Other involvement Brown has had this season includes handing out snacks and water at Girls on the Run, donating items to Kentucky Refugee Ministries and also Souls4Shoes, packing and delivering boxes for God’s Pantry, and bell ringing for the Salvation Army.
Brown also volunteered her time at a local church, sharing her testimony and answering questions from a crowd of kids and teens.
The Wildcat averaged a 73.3 stroke average through 27 rounds and nine tournaments this season. Twenty-three of her 27 rounds counted toward the team total. She had a team-lead 10 rounds of par-or-better, while she also had two top-10 finishes and three top-20 finishes this season.
Her best two rounds of the season were also the best two rounds of her college career, including a 66 (-6) at the Mason Rudolph Championship and 68 (-4) at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational. She also hauled in a career-best, tournament-total 208 (-8) for 11th place at the Mason Rudolph.
The sophomore put together back-to-back, top-five finishes in the middle of the season, including earning a 211 (-5) to finish T4 at Paradise Invitational and then recording a 212 (-4) to finish T3 at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational.
