FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The sun set on day one of the Mason Rudolph Championship with Kentucky in sixth place at Vanderbilt Legends Club’s South Course (par 71, 7114 yards), owning a team score of 1-under par through about one and half rounds of tournament action.

Play began at 11 a.m. local time due to soggy course conditions. The 81-player field was on the course until darkness, completing their first rounds and about half of round two. The second round will resume tomorrow at 8 a.m. CT / 9 a.m. ET with the third and final round to follow immediately after, weather permitting.

The Wildcats ended Friday in sixth place as a team led by a pair of top 20 individuals in Jack Schoenberger and Jansen Preston. Both Schoenberger and Preston are tied for 18th on the leaderboard at 1-under par, having completed 29 holes and 28 holes, respectively.

Schoenberger, who hails from Alpharetta, Ga., carded a 1-under par score of 70 in round one which featured four birdies on the South Course’s back nine. The junior transfer added three more birdies through his first 11 holes in round two, and is well positioned heading into Saturday.

Preston, Kentucky’s captain, was steady for the Cats on day one making 23 pars through 28 holes, tied for the most pars in the field. The senior was 1-over par in his opening round, but is currently 2-under through 10 holes in round two.

Freshman Jacob Settles finds himself tied for 30th at 1-over par overall. Settles was even in round one, making four birdies in a five-hole stretch on holes Nos. 10-14. The native of Winchester, Kentucky is 1-over par on his second round, with a birdie on No. 8 (par 4, 427 yards).

Jacob Lang and Michael Hake are tied for 44th with a total score of 3-over par on the championship. Lang, a freshman, opened with his sixth under-par round of the season, a 1-under 70 which featured back-to-back birdies on holes Nos. 1 and 2. He currently is 4-over on his second round through 11 holes. Hake, who is competing as an individual this weekend, began the tournament by carding a 75 (+4), but finds himself 1-under through 13 holes in round two, having made three birdies.

Gavin Clutts is tied for 50th at 4-over par and has made five birdies through his first 30 holes of play.

Leading the tournament is Ole Miss at 22-under par, one shot clear of the hosts, the Vanderbilt Commodores. Vanderbilt’s Wells Williams is the individual leader at 9-under.
