Weekes, Cosnet Wrap Up Play at ITA All-American Championships
TULSA, Oklahoma – Jaden Weekes won six matches in five days before falling in three sets to Corey Craig of Florida State in the Round of 32 of the main draw at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Charlelie Cosnet also won a pair of matches at the tournament before falling twice in the main draw.
Weekes, who advanced through pre-qualifying and qualifying draws, continued his momentum in Tulsa with a win in the opening round of the Main Draw over No. 16 Pedro Rodenas of Duke. The Blue Devil took the first set in a tiebreak—the first set Weekes had dropped all year—before the Canadian Wildcat stormed back to win his ninth consecutive match to start the season.
The Montreal, Quebec, Canada native moved on to play Craig, another qualifier, in the round of 32. Weekes battled through an up-and-down match to claim the first set in the tiebreak. Just three set wins away from a spot at the NCAA Singles Championship in November, Weekes was able to go up a break multiple time in the second and third sets, but was never able to sustain the momentum, eventually falling in three sets.
Cosnet, a Le Mans, France native, opened his main draw campaign against No. 57 Luca Staeheli of NC State. The Frenchman took the first set, but was unable to advance in the tournament. He was able to play another match in the consolation draw against No. 42 Kenta Miyoshi of Illinois. Once again, Cosnet opened the match with a set win, before ultimately falling in three sets.
Martin Breysach and Jack Loutit also competed in the tournament, falling in pre-qualifying and qualifying, respectively.
Kentucky will continue its fall season from October 10-14 at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional, hosted by Purdue at the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Ind.
