LEXINGTON, Ky. – No. 20 Kentucky women’s soccer (8-0-0) will begin Southeastern Conference play at the Bell Soccer Complex tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. against Florida (3-1-4). The match will be televised on SECN+.
The Wildcats, who rose one spot in the latest United Soccer Coaches rankings this week, enter the match after winning a program-best eighth straight game, 3-1 against Kent State last Thursday. Goals from seniors Maddie Kemp, Grace Phillpotts, and Sophia Mattice saw the Wildcats celebrate a historic senior night.
Through eight games this season, Kentucky has outscored opponents 18-3 while outshooting them 156-43 with 60-11 shots on goal. While the offense has been firing on all cylinders and ranks in the top 20 in the nation in shots per game (19.50), goalkeeper Marz Josephson and the defense have been stellar ranking in the top 15 in the country in goals against average (0.375).
The Gators make the trip to the Bluegrass tomorrow after a 0-0 draw against in-state foe Florida Gulf Coast on Sunday. It’s been a rough start to the season for the Gators as they’ve seen only three wins and four draws in eight games through their non-conference season. Despite this, the team still outscored opponents 10-6 and outshot opponents 116-46.
Thursday’s game will be the 36th meeting between the two programs. Kentucky has a 5-25-5 record all-time against the Gators with a 4-8-2 home record. The last win at home came on November 6th, 2020, where the Wildcats won 3-1 thanks to goals from Jordyn Rhodes and Hannah Richardson, who bagged a brace in the match.
