NCAA Baseball Lexington Regional: Indiana State 6, Western Michigan 4

Indiana State scored four runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back, beating Western Michigan 6-4 on Saturday in an elimination game in the Lexington Regional of the NCAA Baseball Tournament.

Mike Sears got the Sycamores on the board with a double that scored Randal Diaz and Luis Hernandez. ISU would add runs on a single by catcher Grant Magill and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Riley Iffrig.

Indiana State (43-14) would get a solo home run from Diaz in the second dinner and another solo shot, this one from Adam Pittinger, in the third, building a 6-0 lead in the process.

Western Michigan (32-23) broke through in the bottom of the third when Jackson Kitchen doubled to left center, scoring Grady Mee. WMU scored a single run in the fourth inning when Mee walked, scoring Dylan Nevar to make it 6-2. In the fifth, the Broncos got another run when Nevar singled, driving in C.J. Richmond to cut the deficit to 6-3.

The Broncos got another run when Nevar hit a solo homer to right in the bottom of the eighth inning.

With the win, Indiana State advances to Sunday action, where they will face the loser of Saturday’s second game between Kentucky and Illinois.
