Kentucky Earns No. 2 Overall Seed in NCAA Tournament

Kentucky baseball earned its highest-ever NCAA Tournament seed as on Monday it was named the No. 2 overall seed in the 2024 postseason event. UK will host Western Michigan, who it will face in Friday’s opener, Illinois and Indiana State.

The Wildcats on Sunday night were named one of the 16 NCAA Regional host locations for the second season in a row the NCAA announced. It also marks the first time in school history UK has reached the postseason tournament in back-to-back seasons.

Kentucky, which were Southeastern Conference co-champions in the regular season, was one of five league schools among the eight national seeds, further cementing the conference as the deepest and most challenging in Division I.

The Lexington Regional will open play on Friday, May 31 at Kentucky Proud Park. Western Michigan, UK’s opening game opponent at noon ET on Friday, were champions of the Mid-American Conference Tournament. Illinois won the Big 10 regular season and Indiana State was the Missouri Valley Conference regular season champion.
