ST SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Following a Thursday score of 287 (+7) Kentucky men’s golf is in 12th place with 18 holes of stroke play remaining at the 2024 SEC Championships hosted at Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course (par 70, 7005 yards).

The Wildcats sit 13 strokes back of the match play cut line at 10-over par for the week. Upon the conclusion of tomorrow’s third round, the field will be cut to the top eight teams for the match play portion of the Championship, beginning on Saturday.

Alex Goff was the low round of the day for the Wildcats carding a 3-under par score of 67, the best round by a UK player thus far this week. Starting on the back nine, Goff went out in 32 courtesy of birdies on No. 15 (par 5, 565 yards), No. 17 (par 3, 192 yards) and No. 18 (par 4, 470 yards). The graduate added a fourth birdie on his second to last hole of the day, making three on No. 8 (par 4, 368 yards) to give him a team-best eight birdies on the week. His day two charge has the 2023 SEC Tournament runner-up tied for 18th individually and his eight birdies are tied for the 8th most in the field.

Junior Jansen Preston signed for an even-par round of 70 for the second day in a row, placing him tied for 28th in the field. Preston carded birdies on No. 15 (par 5, 565 yards) and No. 1 (par 4, 417) which were offset by a pair of bogeys on No. 18 (par 4, 470 yards) and No. 9 (par 4, 452 yards).

The Wildcats’ day one star, senior Campbell Kremer, followed his opening round 68 with a 5-over 75 in round two, putting him tied for 48th individually. Kremer was 1-over par through 14 holes on his round, but stumbled down the stretch to give back four strokes.

Despite a 5-over par 40 on his Thursday opening nine, redshirt freshman Oakley Gee recovered on his homeward half to post a counting score for Kentucky with a round of 75. Gee birdied a pair of par 3s, taking advantage of No. 3 (par 3, 204 yards) and No. 6 (par 3, 179 yards). The Illinois native leads Kentucky, and is tied for third in the field, in par 3 scoring average this week at 2.75. He sits tied for 61st on the leaderboard overall.

Solomon Petrie improved upon his opening round performance with a 76 on Thursday, three-shots better than his round one score. Petrie picked up a birdie on No. 8 (par 4, 368 yards) and is in 67th place at 15-over par for the tournament.

Kentucky will resume action at 9:20 a.m. tomorrow morning when the Cats tee off alongside South Carolina and Mississippi State for round three. Fans can follow along with live scoring all week long at Golfstat.com.
