Kentucky Closes Hootie at Bulls Bay in 12th Place

AWENDAW, S.C. – The Kentucky men’s golf team closed out the 2024 Hootie at Bulls Bay on Tuesday, finishing in 12th place as a team with a 54-hole total score of 881 (+17). The Wildcats posted a final round 291 (+3) at Bulls Bay Golf Club (par 72, 7266 yards), led by even-par efforts from both Alex Goff and Oakley Gee.

For the ninth-straight event, Goff was the Wildcats’ top-finisher as the graduate rounded out his week with an even-par 72 on Tuesday, tying for 14th in the field at with a three-day total of 1-under par. Goff has finished inside the top 15 in all eight of Kentucky’s events during the 2023-24 season. The captain tallied seven birdies for the week, including three on his final nine holes. Finishing his final round on Bulls Bay’s front nine, Goff converted birdies on No. 2 (par 5, 601 yards), No. 4 (par 5, 540 yards) and No. 7 (par 3, 178 yards). He has now finished under-par in seven-consecutive events and at or below par in 14-straight tournaments.

Gee, who opened the tournament with an 8-over 80 in round one, before firing a 1-under 71 on Monday, continued his fight back on Tuesday. The redshirt freshman made a team-high four birdies during the final round to shoot 72. Starting on the back nine, Gee picked up his first stroke of the day on No. 13 (par 5, 602 yards), and added birdies on No. 1 (par 4, 467 yards), No. 2 (par 5, 601 yards) and No. 6 (par 5, 608 yards). For Gee, it marks the first tournament of his collegiate career with multiple rounds at par-or-better. The Carmi, Illinois native finished tied for 55th individually at 7-over par.

Matching Gee in a tie for 55th was teammate Campbell Kremer. After carding a pair of 75s on the opening two days of play, Kremer turned in his best round of the week on Tuesday, tallying three birdies to post a 1-over par 73.

Junior transfer Jansen Preston finished his week with a 74 to place T-62nd at 8-over par. He was followed by freshman Michael Hake in 77th at 13-over par.

LSU captured the team title at 15-under. New Mexico (-9) and Purdue (-7) rounded out the top three among the 15 teams competing. Jack Lundin of Missouri emerged from a 3-man playoff at 6-under to capture individual medalist honors.

Kentucky plays its final regular season event April 5-7 when the Cats travel to the Mason Rudolph Championship hosted by Vanderbilt in Franklin, Tenn.
