Men’s Golf 12-Over in Opening Round at Bulls Bay

AWENDAW, S.C. – Kentucky men’s golf opened play at the Hootie at Bulls Bay with a 12-over par team score of 300 on Sunday at Bulls Bay Golf Club (par 72, 7266 yards). The Wildcats are in a tie for 13th place after 18 holes.

Graduate Alex Goff led UK with a 2-over round of 74, aided by a 1-under 34 on his inward nine. After making three bogeys over his first five holes, Goff would go 1-under on his final 13 holes of the day, carding 12 pars to go along with a lone birdie on No. 16 (par 4, 438 yards). The North Carolina native sits in a tie for 31st after day one.

Junior Jansen Preston and senior Campbell Kremer each turned in rounds of 3-over par, 75, placing them in a tie for 42nd overall. Preston notched two birdies, taking advantage of No. 3 (par 3, 165 yards) and No. 10 (par 5, 613 yards. Kremer, meanwhile, played his first 13 holes bogey free at 2-under par, but closed with three bogeys and a double over his last five holes to shoot 75.

UK’s fourth counting score belonged to freshman Michael Hake, who registered a 4-over par 76 which featured a birdie on No. 7 (par 3, 178 yards). Hake, who is making his second start of the spring season, is currently tied for 56th individually.

Redshirt freshman Oakley Gee carded an opening round 80 and sits in a tie for 79th.

Kentucky had the best par 3 scoring average in the field on Sunday at 3.00, paced by Hake’s 2.80 average.

LSU leads the tournament at 4-under par collectively. Just four of the 15 teams in the field finished below par on day one. West Virginia’s Max Green sits atop the individual leaderboard at 5-under par.
