FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – The Kentucky men’s golf team sits third after an opening-round 5-over-par 293 team score at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational at Blessings Golf Club Monday afternoon in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Host Arkansas leads the 10-team event at 9-under-par followed by Mississippi State at even-par and the Cats at 5-over.

The Cats get their second round going at 11 a.m. ET Tuesday, with Golf Channel providing live coverage of the event from 4:30-7:30 p.m.

Graduate Alex Goff, who won the event in 2020, sits in a tie for third after a 2-under-par 70, two strokes back of Arkansas’ John Driscoll. After a pair of birdies along with two bogeys through six holes, Goff played bogey-free the rest of the way with birdies at the par-4 11th and 14th to notch his fourth-consecutive under-par round.

Petrie, a redshirt freshman, overcame a slow start to post a 1-over-par 73 to tie for 14th. At 3-over through seven holes, Petrie went on to birdie his next three holes to get back to even-par. After bogeys at 11 and 13, the Akron, Ohio, native responded with a birdie at the par-4 14th to tie his second-best round of the year.

Bogeys on three of the first four holes similarly put freshman Michael Hake behind the eight-ball but the newcomer also was able to overcome the slow start to tie for 19th. Hake made par on his next six holes before playing the final eight in 1-under par for the 2-over 74.

Senior Campbell Kremer was unable to get anything going but kept his round on track on the difficult layout, notching a 4-over-par 76 to tie for 29th. Junior Jansen Preston had an up-and-down round but ultimately was undone by a double-bogey at the par-4 ninth and a triple at the par-4 16th on his way to an 8-over 80 and a tie for 42nd.

As a team, the Cats sit third in par-4 scoring at 10-over-par and third with 15 birdies. Goff is tied for best in the 50-competitor field in par-4 scoring at 2-under, while Kremer is tied for second with 14 pars.
