Wildcats Overcome Two-Goal Halftime Deficit to Defeat Lipscomb, 3-2

LEXINGTON, Ky. – No. 19 Kentucky men’s soccer (3-2-0) broke its two-match losing streak with a big 3-2 victory over Lipscomb (1-2-1) on Friday at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex.

With 1,664 fans rallying behind them, the Wildcats overcame a two-goal halftime deficit to come back for the win. Kentucky improved its all-time series record with Lipscomb to 4-1-1.

Friday’s contest began with a rough start for UK as Lipscomb’s Tyrese Spicer, assisted by Malachi Jones, sunk a ball into the bottom left corner of the net in the 7th-minute. The duo was at it again with another successful scoring attempt in the 24’ to put the Bison up 2-nil leading into the halftime period.

In the first half, the Cats were outshot 10 to three with an equal four corner kicks per squad. However, the two teams shot an even six shots apiece in the second half.

Kentucky entered the second half of the match ready to turn the scoreboard around. Junior Logan Dorsey answered the call 10 minutes into the second set of 45. He was assisted by freshman Isaiah Chisolm. From a throw in, Chisolm connected the ball to Dorsey who threw the keeper to get the Cats on the board.

Shortly after in the 59’, Lipscomb’s Cooper Kieran fouled which opened up a penalty kick opportunity for Kentucky. Aboubacar Camara set up for the shot and sent it straight past the keeper for a second Wildcat goal to tie up the ballgame.

Sealing the victory for the Wildcats in the 77’, Chisolm headed a rocket into the top right of the net off an assist from sophomore captain Max Miller. The goal was the final score of the night earning Kentucky its third victory of the season to remain undefeated at The Bell in 2023.

The Wildcats will be back at The Bell next Friday to begin Sun Belt Conference competition against South Carolina. The unofficial Southeastern Conference Championship match will kick off at 7:30 p.m. EST.
