Kentucky STUNT Drops Two Games in Dallas Baptist Tournament
DALLAS – The Kentucky STUNT team opened its 2023 season on Friday in the Dallas Baptist STUNT Tournament.
The Cats opened Friday morning against Arizona State in a game that was tight early. Each team earned two points in the first quarter and the game remained tied halfway through quarter two. However, Arizona State forged ahead and held a 6-5 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Sun Devils increased their lead by earning three points to Kentucky’s one. The Cats trailed 9-6 with one quarter remaining.
The Cats closed the gap during the first routine in the fourth quarter. However, Arizona State was able to close out the game strong, winning 19-10.
After a short break, the Cats were on the mat again, facing William Jessup University from California. The Warriors scored the first point of the game, but UK tied it with a win in the second routine.
From there, Jessup scored six points in a row over the course of two quarters and the Warriors led 7-1 at halftime.
Kentucky mounted a rally during the third quarter, which features jumps and tumbling. The Cats won the first three points of the period and, after three quarters, UK was within four points, trailing 8-4.
The fourth quarter was tight, but Jessup did enough to hold on for a 16-9 win.
Kentucky returns to action on Saturday, when the Cats will complete play in the DBU Tournament. UK faces Texas Tech on Saturday at 6:30 ET. Then at 9:15 ET, the Cats will battle defending club national champion Oklahoma State.
