Jensen Castle and Laney Frye to Take on U.S. Women’s Open Tomorrow

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Jensen Castle and Laney Frye will tee off for the first day of the U.S. Women’s Open at the Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club (Par 72, 6,851) in Southern Pines, N.C. on Thursday.

The 2022 U.S. Women’s Amateur champion, Castle will begin her round at 8:32 a.m. from the first hole. She will be paired with reigning Open champion, Yuka Saso, and Anna Nordqvist.

The Wildcat made her debut at the U.S. Women’s Open, held at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, last year where she finished in 150th at 23-over par. She was one of just 31 amateurs in the 156-player field.

Castle will be joined by Kentucky teammate Frye who will be making her U.S. Women’s Open debut as a player. However, this will not be Frye’s first trip to the tournament as she caddied for Castle last year in California.

Frye qualified for the prestigious tournament at Shannopin Country Club in Pittsburgh where she won the play-off to finally make her debut at the Open after three attempts. Her grit and determination proved to be successful as she will be teeing off from the ninth hole at 12:56 p.m. She will be paired with professionals Gabriela Ruffels and Cheyenne Knight.

Castle and Frye are two of only 27 amateurs competing in the 156-player field.
