Kentucky Baseball Makes Quick Pit Stop at Home on Tuesday

by UK Athletics Communications and PR

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Coming off an impressive road sweep of Auburn during which it never trailed the Kentucky baseball team will make a short stop at home on Tuesday night to face Bellarmine before hitting the highway again.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on the SEC Network+/Watch ESPN platforms. The UK Sports Network will broadcast the game via radio on 630 AM (WLAP) Lexington and on UKAthletics.com, with Darren Headrick on the call.

Over the weekend the Wildcats (17-4, 5-1 SEC) completed their perfect week with three wins over the Tigers at Plainsman Park, including a doubleheader sweep on Saturday. It was the first conference sweep for UK since 2017, only the second road sweep since 2008 and just the 13th sweep of a league series since 2000. UK never trailed and found a way to close out close games, winning a game by one run and two by two runs, one in extra innings. The 5-1 start in SEC play is the best for the program since 2017.

On Tuesday, UK is expected to start junior right-hander Alex Degen, who started one game each in both his freshman and sophomore seasons. The 6-foot-8 New Jersey native missed the first few weeks of the 2021 season and thus has appeared in just two games but he was excellent in 2020, posting a 2.51 earned run average and earning a save in 14.1 innings over five appearances.
