Garrett Wood Leads Four Starters in Top 20 at Island Resort
ESCANABA, Mich. – Four of the Kentucky men’s golf team’s starters concluded the opening 36 holes among the top 20 on the individual leaderboard as the Wildcats rounded out the day at the Island Resort Intercollegiate in sixth with a 13-over par score.
Redshirt senior Garrett Wood finished the day in a tie for 17th to lead the way for the starters following rounds of 71 and 75. Wood was powered by a 3-under back nine during the first round to get to 1-under.
Sophomore Hugo Archer, playing as an individual, enjoyed a breakthrough performance with a career-low opening round of 68 to get his day started. He is tied for second overall following an under-par 71 during the second round. He is 5-under for the tournament and trails the leader by just one shot.
The field opened the 2021-22 season with two rounds at Sage Run Golf Club. Michigan State leads at 17-under par, with Michigan 16 shots back. UCF is third at 6-over par. The Wildcats are four shots off of a top-five finish with Middle Tennessee State at 9-over par. South Diego State is fourth at 8-over.

Graduate student Jacob Cook is in 19th with rounds of 73 and 74. Junior Alex Goff and senior Zach Norris are tied for 20th. Goff carded scores of 74 during both rounds, while Norris produced a 72 during the opening 18 and a 76 during round two.
In addition to UK’s five starters, the Wildcats have five players participating as individuals. Nobody played better than Archer.
The Rennes, France, native notched a flawless opening round to his sophomore campaign. He logged birdies as the par-five third, the par-four eighth, the par-five ninth, and the par-three 14th for a 4-under 68. It marked a new career-low score. He followed that with a 1-under 71 during round two. That round featured an eagle at the third and back-to-back birdies to conclude the round.
Tanner Parks, appearing in his first collegiate event, is tied for 25th. Parks produced scores of 73 and 76 and finished the day at 5-over par.
Campbell Kremer and junior Jackson LaLonde capped day one tied for 31st. Kremer generated rounds of 73 and 77, while LaLonde had an opening-round 77 but fired back with a 73 during round two.
Rounding out the field for the Wildcats was starter Cooper Parks and individual Jay Kirchdorfer who both ended Sunday in a tie for 63rd.
