Cats Bounce Back with 4-1 Win at Auburn

by Connor Link

AUBURN, Ala. – After dropping two matches in a row for the first time all season, No. 15 Kentucky (12-3, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) bounced back with its first conference road win in a 4-1 victory at Auburn (4-7, 1-3 SEC) on Sunday.
Following a slow start in which the Wildcats relinquished the match’s first point to the Tigers, Kentucky wasted no time in sweeping singles play among the four completed matchups.
First, it was team co-captain Millen Hurrion who cruised to a 6-4, 6-3 win over Tad Maclean on court three. The floodgates opened soon after, as the Wildcats scored the ensuing back-to-back-to-back points almost simultaneously.
César Bourgois, who is also a Kentucky co-captain, continued his hot play as of late with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 defeat of Jan Galka on court four. The 45th-ranked Liam Draxl held on for a 6-1, 7-6 (10-8) win over Tyler Stice on the top court, shifting all eyes to the rapidly closing matchup on court five.
Freshman Yasha Zemel clinched the winning point, defeating Maxwell Giddens 6-3, 6-4.
Kentucky follows its three-match road stint with a two-week homestead, hosting Arkansas (6-3, 0-1 SEC) on Friday at 6 p.m. ET.
