LEXINGTON, Ky. – The intrasquad rivalry lived up to the hype on Friday after more than six months of no competition, as the University of Kentucky swimming and diving program inaugurated its season at the annual Blue-White scrimmage inside Lancaster Aquatic Center. The white squad led wire-to-wire, earning a win with a 314-275 final score.

“This meet was a lot of fun,” head coach Lars Jorgensen said. “There was a lot of anticipation leading up to this meet because it’s been so long since the teams have competed, and thanks to the guidance and resources of the department and league, we were able to do that this afternoon. The Blue-White meet is always a spirited and exciting competition, and it was an awesome way to kick off the season, but we still have to get better before we meet our first opponent.”

The Wildcats competed in 32 events on Friday, including four springboard events. The program broke eight meet records in the contest – five women’s records and three men’s records – including the women’s 50, 100 and 200 freestyle, the women’s 400 freestyle relay, the men’s and women’s 100 backstroke, the men’s 200 backstroke and the men’s 200 individual medley.

“There is a lot of work to do, but I was excited about what I saw in the divers this afternoon,” said head diving coach Ted Hautau. “They were mentally fit, there was good energy, and they encouraged each other a lot.

“I was really happy with Sam (Duncan). I thought he was good mentally, and he was accurate, so I was pleased with how he dived. Danny (Zhang) did a good job, too. Sam (Duncan) and Chase (Lane) pushed him on 1-meter, and he responded well, so I was pleased with his steadiness. I thought Kyndal (Knight) hit the dives she needed to hit to win, and she competed well. Cara (Hudson) did some good stuff, as well, and Van (McKinley) and Flanary (Patterson) both had some good moments.”
