Kentucky Returns Home for Doubleheader versus Kennesaw State
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Following its first true road match of the season, Kentucky men’s tennis (4-4) returns to Boone Tennis Center for a doubleheader versus Kennesaw State (1-0) on Sunday at noon ET. The second match will begin at approximately 4 p.m.
The pair of contests mark the Wildcats’ first doubleheader since opening the season with 7-0 wins over IUPUI and Northern Kentucky on Jan. 13.
Last Friday, Kentucky dropped a 4-1 decision at No. 14 Illinois. Kento Yamada, who debuted last week as the nation’s No. 96 singles player, was the only Cat to emerge victorious with a 6-4, 6-4 win over No. 125 Keenan Mayo.
Kennesaw State enters Sunday on the heels of its first win, blanking Connecticut 7-0 a week prior. The Owls are led by director of tennis Matt Emery, who played for Kentucky from 2001 to 2004. Emery served as an assistant coach on the UK staff for the past six seasons, wherein he recruited Yamada and several members of the current squad.
