No. 16 Kentucky Begins Final Week of Regular Season

by UK Media Relations

LEXINGTON, Ky. Having put the emotions of closing the gates in regular season play at Cliff Hagan Stadium, No. 16 Kentucky hits the road Tuesday for what it hopes will be nearly two full weeks away from home. The road trip begins in the far western side of the Commonwealth as the Wildcats take on Murray State at Brooks Stadium in Paducah. From there they will travel to Nashville to face Vanderbilt in the final regular season series and then on to Hoover for the Southeastern Conference Tournament beginning May 22.

The Cats gained some momentum last week by knocking off No. 19 Indiana on the road and then winning a series against Mississippi State, which featured a thrilling eighth inning rally on Saturday. With an RPI hovering in the 15-17 range the opportunity to host an NCAA Regional remains very much within reach, but any significant slip-ups will likely end those hopes.

Individually, UK’s Luke Heyer, Kole Cottam and Tristan Pompey will look to bolster their All-America candidacies before voters must turn in their ballots in the coming week or two. The trio has combined for 81 extra-base hits, 129 runs, 134 RBI and 20 stolen bases this season.

Tuesday night’s game is schedule for a 7 p.m. ET first pitch. There is no live video stream available for the game, but Darren Headrick will have the radio call in the UK Sports Network.
